Our friend, companion, comrade, and uncle, Tariq Syed Muhammad Shah, passed away on Thursday evening, February 13, at Osnabrück Hospital.
Tariq was a symbol of courage and resistance. His death represents a profound loss for the entire struggle against deportation and for the freedom of movement. Tariq was an irreplaceable, pivotal figure within the We’ll Come United community and the No Border networks, not only in Osnabrück but throughout Germany. He was known to us as a tireless voice for refugees, both inside and outside the camps, where he began his fight against racist injustice in Germany. He described himself as a human rights activist, and as such, he was never afraid to name those responsible — those who politically control the fate of asylum seekers — regardless of the risks to himself. Whenever he saw someone in a powerless position, he immediately offered his unwavering support.
